FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is non-invasive vascular testing?

Q. What is ultrasound?
A.

Ultrasound technology uses sound waves that are converted into visual pictures. These sound waves are emitted from a transducer held against the skin and are then passed through the body. Different tissues within the body reflect sound waves back to the transducer. A computer transforms the sound waves into images allowing visualization of the inside of your body. These images are recorded on video tape.

Q. What do vascular technologists do?

Q. What can I expect when I arrive?
A.

Even though the exams are painless, they are often time-consuming and tedious. On the average, an exam usually takes one hour to complete. Some exams require more time and may take up to two hours.

After you fill out the registration form, the technologist will obtain a brief medical history. Depending upon the exam, you may be asked to put on a gown. You are examined while lying on a hospital bed. Water soluble gel is applied to the area of your body being tested. The room is darkened. The technologist will be talking during the exam since it is being recorded on video tape. All aspects of testing will be fully explained by the technologist as the test proceeds. Our vascular lab is staffed by Registered Vascular Technologists.
